GURGAON: In a move that is expected to bring relief to residents of new sectors, deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav has said he will take up the opening of Central Peripheral Road (CPR), a part of Dwarka Expressway, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
On Monday, he told TOI that he will ensure that some of CPR’s loops — which link the expressway with NH-8 and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) — are opened for traffic on Wednesday and the Narsinghpur service road is repaired as well.
“The issue has been brought to my notice and I am taking it up with NHAI. I will ask NHAI to remove the barricades and put safety measures in place. Some of the loops will be opened by Wednesday,” Yadav said.
Although the Dwarka Expressway’s city section is nearly ready, it is yet to be opened to commuters. Some people use the road anyway to avoid paying toll, even though barricades have been put up at various places. On the same expressway lane, as a result, high speed traffic moves in both directions.
On May 7, a 56-year-old woman from Delhi died and four of her family members suffered injuries when the Swift Dzire in which they were travelling collided head-on with a car being driven on the wrong side of the expressway.
The area’s MLA, Rakesh Daultabad, said CPR needs to be made operational. “CPR is ready with streetlights and road markings in place. I spoke to the authorities, and they said they need a day’s time to remove the barricades and make it ready for traffic. I will make sure residents of my area are not forced to pay the toll unnecessarily,” he said.
